About Us

Community Tutoring is a 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on making quality individual tutoring available to ALL students.

We recognized that one of the common ingredients leading to academic success was private tutoring. The trouble is while quality tutoring services are readily available, the costs can make it impossible for many students to get the extra help and individualized attention they need.

This is unfair so we set out to do something about it. Our thought was if we could get the highest-achieving students in communities around the country to volunteer their time to tutor local students we could correct this inequity.

As with any new idea, best to check in with the powers that be so we asked our mom (former teacher) if she thought it was a good idea and she did. And then we asked our grandma (also a teacher) and she was excited too- a very good sign. By the time we got to our aunts and uncle (all teachers) it was clear we were on to something.

Feeling empowered, we then started asking around to the best students we knew in our community to see if they would be interested in helping and literally everyone said yes. So then we reached out to top students we knew from other communities, and they too said yes! These top students were happy to share what they had learned, giving back by helping others in their community (and beyond). A small idea has become a big one!

With tutors on board, we now needed to see how students would react to being tutored by other students from their community. This too clicked immediately. The students were able to relate to one another and it helped create a connection that improved communication and kick started the learning process. We found that both students were even more engaged because they had grown up nearby and had things in common.
